Video Activity Three

Taking Advantage of YouTube's Editing Features: Adding Captions

YouTube has many useful editing features that are easy to use
  • Combine multiple videos and images you've uploaded to create a new video
  • Trim your clips to custom lengths
  • Add music to your video from a library of approved tracks
  • Customize clips with several special tools and effects!

Part I

For Video Activity Three, we will edit an existing narrated YouTube video or create a new narrated one to add captions.
(You could use your VA2 or your original introduction video for this class, or another.)
The end result will be a video that includes captions.
Choose/edit or create a video that is less than two minutes in length if possible.

In order to edit the captions, you may edit the captions on YouTube. Or, you may download the captions file, open it in Notepad or Textedit, save it, and then upload the revised captions file to your video.

Add captions to your video.
Read the YouTube Help about how to "Add subtitles and closed captions" at

Part II
Once you have added the captions and performed any other edits you choose, do the following:
  • Create a new wiki page titled va3.
  • Embed your revised video on that page.
  • Then, explain the following:
    • 1. Steps you followed to add the captions.
    • 2. Challenges and successes.

Let me know when it's ready.
[Warning: It takes several minutes for YouTube to process your video and for the captions to appear once you enable them. Be patient and check back with your video later.]

Due by midnight on Thursday, September 24.
